How RP broke my writer’s block

I’d been suffering from writer’s block for a few years caused by a blanket of depression that I didn’t realize was going on. Someday I might talk more about that, but for now let’s just say it sucked. I could write some fanfic, but original writing was out of the question my brain would not cooperate.

Then one of my friends asked me to play Vampire the Masquerade with her online through Facebook. I hadn’t played VtM in a very long time, but it has always been my favorite RPG. My brain kicked into gear, and I think it took me all of two hours to create Carter Price.

It felt good to make an original character. It was wonderful to get to RP after so long, and since the online experiment my friend (who is also a Jenn) and I try to get together every other month for in person gaming with Carter.

He also inspired me to start writing a story about his early days as a vampire. I plowed though 1K in an hour. I joined a writers Meetup, and then I set up a writers’ group of my own that just turned 2 in June.

Without Carter Price, I would not be finishing the Prenup from Hell. I owe a great deal to the other Jenn and the dumpster fire known as Clan Ventrue in Los Angeles.

I’ll be posting bits of Carter’s story and other things for your enjoyment over on my Patreon two weeks before I post them here.

  1. Clan Dumpster Fire!!!!

Just saying, you let me run a city and I got the Tremere in control because I have preferences.

That said, I love running our little adventures. I love Carter. I love you! And I’m glad you’ve found your voice again. Always here when you need.

Now, if you could just motivate me to finish this doctorate of mine….

    1. If I knew how to motivate you, I would do it, because I would do anything for my Jenn/Leo sister (even if you are a Tremere). Once this cold/bronchitis is over, I will get back to writing. Carter’s stories are going up on here and Patreon.
